VMCC School Summary
Valley of the Moon Children’s Center has its own school to serve the children who come to stay at the Center. The school allows for the flexibility and support needed to meet the educational needs of children who are in crisis and may be too fragile to currently be in a regular school setting. The school is run by the Sonoma County Office of Education in a similar fashion as the one-room school house model. It has one certified teacher who is responsible for class curriculum for grades kindergarten through 12th grade. The teacher is supported by a teacher’s assistant, counselors, and multiple volunteers. Volunteers provide tutoring support in the classroom and facilitate special programs such as art, music, gardening, yoga, and physical education. The involvement of the volunteers ensures that enhancement programs are able to take place and their extra support for children in the classroom strengthens the learning environment.
