In 1994 the Valley of the Moon Children’s Foundation was formed to
provide discretionary funds for the children’s needs. It soon
became evident that the one overwhelming need was more room for
the kids.
The foundation formed a public-private partnership with Sonoma County to raise funds and build a much needed new Children's Home for the county's abused, abandoned and neglected children. Budget restrictions led to the project being built in three phases. In May 2005, Phase II (the housing units, full commercial kitchen, dining area) was completed. The children moved in June 1, 2005. In 2006, the Board of Supervisors and the Valley of the Moon Children’s Foundation agreed to proceed with the total completion of the project and get started on the final phase. Costs have risen substantially but all agreed to finish the job now. Bidding went out in Summer 2007 and construction began in Fall 2007. Efforts are currently under way to raise the funds ($18.8 million) to build the final phase (Phase III) of the project. Phase III includes:
The Foundation has set a goal of raising $3 million towards the projected completion cost and will concentrate its efforts specifically on the Redwood Children’s Center ($1 million), the Medical Wing ($1 million) and the Toddler’s area ($1 million). Once this project is complete, the Foundation will turn its attention to expanded support services for the children, focusing on four key areas:

for these kids is the very least we can do. After all, they're simply innocent victims.
